Disturbed travellers in Europe spoken fury on Monday at transportation officials' inability to clear snow and ice from planes, runways and high-speed train tracks - failings that have caused holiday travel chaos and fears that many will not get home in time for Christmas.
More than 48 hours after the last heavy snowfall, English authorities continued to struggle to get rid of build-ups of snow and ice.
Mortified British officials promised an inquiry into the poor performance of the transport network, with Transport Secretary Philip Hammond planning to address Parliament about the failures, which incorporated major delays on the Eurostar rail service connecting England to France and Belgium.
Several hundred people queued patiently at Brussels' main train station hoping to get a seat on the next Eurostar train to London. Most passengers accepted the delays.
At London's St. Pancras station, frustrated travellers stood in a line that wound through the station, around the outside of the huge building and several hundred yards (metres) down the road.
